Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer’s is a slow moving disease that destroys the brain. Inside the brain there are neurons. These neurons communicate with each other by sending electrical signals, but sometimes there are gaps called synapses that the charges must move across. Alzheimer’s disease makes it so that the charges cannot jump across these gaps, causing the neurons to shrivel up and become tangles and plaques- one way to tell if someone has Alzheimer’s. When these neurons shrivel up it causes memory loss. Right now there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, but scientists are looking for cures. There may be a way to inject a virus into the brain to reverse the process, but there is only medication to temporarily regain some of the functions currently.
